The Q3 is Leica's full-frame take on the fixed-lens compact, built for photographers who want one camera, one lens, and as little between them and the picture as possible. A 60-megapixel sensor sits behind a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7, a fast, stabilised wide-angle with a close-focusing macro mode, and the high resolution lets you crop to 35, 50, 75 or 90mm framings while keeping usable detail. The controls sit where your hands are, on the lens barrel, while a hybrid autofocus and a tilting rear screen, a first for the Q line, modernise an otherwise pared-back body. It suits the photographer who values a 28mm discipline and Leica's rendering and build, and accepts the deliberate narrowness, and the considerable price, of a single fixed focal length.

Design intent

The fixed 28mm Summilux is the camera's reason to exist: a single fast, high-quality wide-angle paired with a 60-megapixel sensor, so the resolution itself becomes the zoom, cropping to longer framings rather than carrying or changing lenses.
The interface is deliberately reduced to essentials and placed on the lens barrel, keeping aperture, focus and macro under the fingers, so a technically advanced camera still operates with the directness of a much simpler one.

Trade-offs

One fixed wide focal length is a strong creative position but a real limitation: longer framings come only from cropping into the sensor, and anyone needing genuine telephoto reach or lens flexibility is buying the wrong camera by design.
It is very expensive, among the priciest ways to own a single 28mm lens, so the value rests on Leica's build, rendering and the experience of use rather than on specification compared with cheaper full-frame bodies.
