RASKOG Trolley / IKEA
The RASKOG is a three-tier trolley on castors, and one of IKEA's most copied products since it arrived in 2012. The tiers are mesh steel, the frame powder-coated, the castors lockable so it stays put when parked. It answers a single problem directly: mobile storage for things that need to be visible and quickly moved, in a kitchen, studio or workspace, with no doors and nothing concealed. The mesh is deliberate, letting air circulate and dust settle through rather than collecting, and keeping contents legible from any angle. It now comes in two sizes and a wide colour range, with each shelf rated to around 6kg. It moves with one hand and needs no braking hardware. The format is as direct as the problem it solves.
Design intent
- +The open mesh tiers keep contents visible from every angle and let air and dust pass through rather than gather, which suits frequently-grabbed items.
- +Lockable castors let it roll with one hand and then stay put, so mobility costs nothing in stability.
Trade-offs
- -Nothing is concealed: everything on the trolley is on show, an asset in an organised space and a liability in a cluttered one.
- -The fixed tier heights and shallow rims limit tall or large items, and A4 sits awkwardly, so what it holds well is bounded.
