The GreenFan is built around a single, unusual idea: that an electric fan can imitate a natural breeze. Its founder set two layers of blades spinning at different speeds, so a fast airstream and a slow one leave the fan together and collide, cancelling the tight spiral an ordinary fan produces and spreading the air into a wide, soft wall roughly four times broader than a normal fan. A brushless DC motor keeps it to 13 decibels and as little as 1.5 watts on its lowest setting, quiet and cheap enough to leave running. It works as a table or floor fan, reaches up to fifteen metres, and runs cordless for around twenty hours with the optional battery dock. It suits someone who finds a conventional fan's direct, buffeting draught tiring and wants moving air they can sit in all day.

Design intent

The defining decision is the two-layer blade: by sending a fast and a slow airstream out together so they collide and cancel the usual spiralling vortex, the fan turns a concentrated jet into a wide, soft column of air meant to feel like a natural breeze rather than a machine's draught.
A brushless DC motor and a dedicated low-power circuit drop the noise to around 13 decibels and the draw to 1.5 watts on the lowest setting, which is what makes it quiet and cheap enough to run continuously, day and night, rather than in bursts.

Trade-offs

It is expensive for a fan, several times the price of a conventional one, and the battery that makes it cordless is a separate purchase on top, so the natural-breeze effect and the quietness come at a clear premium.
For all the engineering, the housing is plastic and reviewers note the materials feel ordinary against the price; you are paying for the airflow and the motor, not for a luxurious object in the hand.
