Sling Bag / Labo Mono
Labo Mono is a small independent outdoor brand split between the UK and France, and the Sling Bag is the core of a modular system rather than a fixed object. It is made from technical fabrics, a partly-recycled 840-denier polyester and a laminated 210-denier nylon, not the waxed canvas its restrained look might suggest, with YKK zips throughout. The bag, the strap and the modules are interchangeable and upgradeable: you choose a strap, often one repurposed from climbing rope with carabiners, and add or swap parts later without rebuying the whole thing, which is the point of the design. It is more organised than a plain pouch, with considered compartments, and transforms from a flat layout to a crossbody carry. It comes in two sizes and is backed by a lifetime warranty.
Design intent
- +The modular construction lets the bag, strap and add-ons be swapped and upgraded over time, so a worn or outgrown part is replaced rather than the whole bag, which also curbs overproduction.
- +Technical laminated fabrics and YKK zips are chosen for durability and structure, and the repurposed climbing-rope straps put a hard-wearing offcut to use.

Trade-offs
- -The modular, multi-part system costs more than a simple sling, and the optional straps and modules add up if you buy into the whole ecosystem.
- -Labo Mono runs at low volume, so availability, colours and lead times are less predictable than an established brand's.
