Surface Pro 13 Inch 12th Edition / Microsoft
/ / /
The Surface Pro, 13-inch (12th Edition) is Microsoft's 2026 take on the tablet that becomes a laptop: a 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen, available as OLED or LCD at 2880 by 1920 and 120Hz, set into a recycled-aluminium body with the line's integrated kickstand. Inside is a Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite processor with a Copilot+ NPU, Wi-Fi 7, up to 64GB of memory and a removable SSD. The detachable keyboard and Slim Pen, sold separately, are what complete the laptop half of the proposition. It runs full Windows 11 on Arm, and suits a buyer who genuinely uses both modes: drawing or reading as a tablet, typing at a desk, and is willing to assemble the pieces. The naming is the one place clarity slips: this is the third 13-inch Surface Pro, not the twelfth.
Design intent
- The kickstand and detachable keyboard let one device hold two genuinely different postures, a tablet for pen and touch and a propped screen for typing, without committing to the fixed hinge and base of a clamshell.
- Moving to a Snapdragon X2 processor with a dedicated NPU buys fanless, all-day battery operation and on-device AI features, trading the broad legacy compatibility of an x86 chip for efficiency in a thin chassis.
Trade-offs
- The keyboard and Slim Pen are sold separately, so the advertised figure is for the tablet alone; reaching the laptop it is pictured as costs meaningfully more than the headline price.
- A kickstand needs a flat surface to work, so the Surface is less stable on a lap than a clamshell laptop, and the Arm build of Windows still meets occasional gaps in app and peripheral support.
